At least 10 lakh saplings would be planted in the Talcher industrial belt during monsoon season to combat the rising temperature in the area, said Angul District Collector Girish. S.N.
After a high-level meeting with all the operating Central public and private sector units here, the Collector said of the 10 lakh saplings Forest Department will plant eight lakh trees, while industries will plant two lakh saplings in July. Around Rs 50lakh will be spent by the industries for the two lakh trees, he said adding, the cost would be shared among them.
According to Sub-Collector Nirmal Mishra, MCL will plant 50,000 saplings, the highest, followed by NTPC 25,000. The three private sector units have agreed to plant 5,000 trees each. The decision was taken considering the rising temperature at Talcher during summer.
