3 lakh fishermen to be insured against accidents in Orissa.

The State Government has decided to insure 3 lakh fishermen against any accidents by the end of the current financial year, said Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Golak Bihari Nayak.In a phase manner in the next three years, 10lakh fishermen would be insured against any sorts of accidents. It would cover fishermen in the age group of 18 to 70. In case of any accident, the kith and kin of the deceased would receive Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia. Those who suffer injuries would only receive Rs 25,000 per annum. Both the State Government and the Centre would equally share the expenditure incurred towards the insurance.The State Government has also decided to set up a training centre in Bhubaneswar. The training Centre would offer special packaging system to export dry fishes.
