Arcelor-Mittal to invest Rs 1,200 cr on rehabilitation forOrissa project.

Under the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) plan for its proposed 12-million-tonne steel plant at Patna tehsil in Keonjhar district, the Arcelor-Mittal Group has announced to invest Rs 1,200 crore. The fund would be spent on a two phase. In this connection, a high-level delegation on Friday called on the Chief Secretary Ajit Tripathy and held a detailed discussion on this issue.
Speaking to the reporters, India Chief of the Arcelor- Mittal Dr Sanak Mishra said the detailed project report (DPR) of the R&R policy has been finalised. It would be submitted in the next month. The R&R policy of company would be based on the Orissa Government's R&R policy which is considered as one of the best policy of the country.
He further said the company would put stress on the rehabilitation and resettlement programme. Those who will be ousted by the plant would be given dwelling units. A modern rehabilitation colony would be set up. All the modern amenities including drinking water and schooling facilities would be provided to the colony.

Revealing the plan for the welfare of the local people, he said the company would put stress on recruiting more number of people in the proposed plant. In order to sharpen the skill of the local people, the company would set up an ITI on the adjoining site of the plant. "We have urged the Government to provide additional land for the setting up the educational institution," he said, adding that institution would be one of the best institutions of the country.The company has already initiated talk with three reputed institutions of the country for setting up the projects, he said. The Arcelor- Mittal Company requires 6,000 acres of land for the establishment of their plant. Rs 40,000 crore would be invested in the project.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the work, he said the company has got all the necessary help and people are also supporting the project. "Both the projects in Orissa and Jharkhand are progressing well," he said.
