Marwari youth body to set up limb manufacturing unit

The Utkal Pranatiya Marawari Yuva Manch is going to establish an artificial limb manufacturing and fitment centre (ALMFC) in the State to provide good quality artificial limbs to poor disabled patient free of cost.

Manch president Jitendra Kumar Gupta, vice-president Akshya Khandelwal, general secretary Nandu Lal Agarwal said in a Press release that Orissa had become the first State of the country to have more 100 branches and about 10,000 youth as members, who are providing meaningful and truthful need-based social services.

They said that the Manch has planned to construct the ALMFC having the latest technology, residential facilities for disabled patients and their escorts. They also informed that the proposal would be sent to the State Government to provide a 4,000-sqft, rent-free accommodation to start the ALMFC by the end of this month. This would be the second unit of its kind in the country. Three acre of land in Bhubaneswar would be taken from the Government to establish the centre which would have a capacity to manufacture and fit 5,000 artificial limbs per annum.

A day-long leaders' meet of the Manch was held at Puri on Sunday, in which about 300 office-bearers of 100 branches in the State finalised the annual action plan of social activities to be undertaken during 2008-09.

Besides running of old projects like Amrit Dhara, Jeevan Dhara, ambulance and vans for carrying bodies, the Manch will support best projects of social works and social reform being undertaken by governmental and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
