New Agriculture Policy for Orissa soon

State Agriculture Minister Surendra Nath Nayak on Saturday said the State Government has already finalised the new Agriculture Policy and it would be announced during the current Budget session.Giving reply to the Budget discussion of the department, Nayak said Government was putting priority for the development of the agriculture in the State. He further said that the agricultural lands had gradually diminished due to the rise of population. "This has been the case of the whole country," he said, adding that Orissa Government doesn't take away the lands forcibly for industrilisation as it happened in the left-ruled States. He further said the condition of the agriculture has reached at alarming stage.Despite being neglected by the Centre, the agricultural growth has reached 3 per cent while the growth rate at the national level has subsided. He further said the State Government has made a target to produce 91 lakh metric tonne of paddy during this year.He further said that steps have been taken to provide water to the tail end of the canal.Participating in the discussion, both the ruling and opposition members demanded pensions for farmers and waiving of the power tariff for the agricultural activities.
